1. Choose a platform

There are various different content management systems (CMS) you can choose to build your website, so it is important you take time to consider the options and go for the one that best suits your needs.

Think about what you want from your website and what functionality you need it to have. This can give you a clue as to what level of complexity you might need from a platform. It is better to weigh up the different options before you start building your site rather than getting half-way through and realising you have chosen the wrong platform for your needs.

WordPress is a popular option and is favoured by those who lack IT or coding knowledge. Drupal and Joomla are other platforms you can use to build a website. Another thing to bear in mind is that if you want to create a professional image but lack web design skills, it could be worth investing time and money in getting an expert – such as a Drupal design agency – to help. A Drupal Design Agency https://www.website-express.co.uk/ will have knowledge of all the elements that make a website run smoothly and look polished.

2. Choose a domain and hosting

Your website will need a domain name, so try to think of something that fits well with your brand, is easy to remember, and won’t cause confusion to users. Crucially, choose a name that is available! If you have a specific name in mind and it has already been taken, you may need to acquire it from its owner, which can work out more expensive than registering a name that is already available.

Once you have your domain, you need server space to host your website.

3. Setting up your website

As a final step, your website will need to go live so that it can be viewed across the internet. In addition to installing your site, you will need to add content to it so that it looks professional and is engaging to users. Once your site is up and running, remember to keep it updated and fresh so that visitors have a reason to return to it.
