Blocked Drains and How to Unclog Them

Blocked Drains are an inevitable plumbing problem that plumbers and drainage companies have to deal with on a daily basis. Most of the time blocked drains happen as a result of the drainage system having to expand or contract too much when there’s a lot of water in the pipes. These drains are a pain to have to live with and if you don’t think your sink is big enough there probably is a larger problem in your kitchen, bathroom or elsewhere in the home.

Blocked Drains are something that plumbers take care of all the time and they are usually caused by the area around the pipe getting compacted over time. This causes a reduced flow rate and water can buildup behind the pipe. It also can be caused by over usage of the area as well as tree roots and grass clippings. If your sink is clogged or the drain outlet is close to the floor, it’s likely these are the cause of your problem. If this is the case then you should try to find where the block is coming from so that you can unblock it. CCTV Drainage Surveys from companies like Wilkinson Environmental are a great way to do this.

You might need to hire a plumber to remove the block in your drain, but this is usually not a very difficult task to do. Just make sure you know exactly what is causing the problem in order to properly fix it. Sometimes it’s more than just the pipes that need to be repaired. Sometimes the clog could be due to a root system in your pipes, which is slowing down the flow of water. In cases like these it’s best to have a professional take care of it so that you don’t have to deal with the problem any further.
